Oblivion and Fanboys

Well, now that the PS3 version is out, the fanboys are all going nuts claiming that the PS3 is so far superior to the Xbox 360 because of a few minor graphical updates. But nobody seems to realise that the PC and 360 versions of the game were updated on Friday.

The graphics of all three versions are very nearly identical now. Obviously the PC version will be superior due to evolving hardware. The console ports both have their advantages as well. The advantage for the PS3 coming in the form of a required hard drive installation. At the cost of 4600MB of disk space, the game will now have FAR fewer hiccups, and "Loading Area..." pauses.

Tt's for this reason that I wish the hard drive on the 360 had been standard on all SKUs. The 360 version can be borderline irritating at times, with all the loading and stuttering. In it's defense though, this has been substantially improved with the Friday update. Now that the graphics debate is negated, and the downsides of the 360 version have been discussed, on to the advantages. Currently the PS3 version has no available downloadable content. This means that if you own the PS3 version, you'll be unable to enjoy the Horse Armour pack, Mehrunes Razor, or largest of all, Shivering Isles. I'm sure this content will come to the PS3 at some point, but last I heard, Bethesda was having some issues with the way the memory is laid out in the PS3.

To summarize, you're pretty safe in the purchase of any version of the game. You can safely ignore all of the ranting on forums and such about which version is superior, fanboys can get pretty desperate.
