Online Petitions

First there was the moronic petition protesting Devil May Cry 4 going multi-platform. Which Capcom actually responded to, for some reason... Now People are starting petitions to keep Metal Gear Solid 4, and Final Fantasy XIII as PS3 exclusives.

To illustrate just how absolutely foolish these things are, I'll use the DMC4 one as an example, because of how insane it is.

We (The people that have signed this petition) feel very left out in your decision to make Devil May Cry 4 a Multi-Platform title, and hereby agree to boycott your sale of Capcom affiliated games.

Left out? I'd love for one of "the undersigned" to explain exactly how they're left out. the game is still being released on the PS3...

This is due to your decision to turn your back on your most faithful gaming company.

Turned their backs on you, yet the game is still coming out on the PS3, hmmm...

For years we have enjoyed games, we have reaped the benefits of your committment to Sony.

Spelling errors make it really hard to take something seriously...

We find it absolutely demoralizing for not only the gamers, but also Sony itself.

If you're thrown into a fit of depression because someone else is going to have the opportunity to play a game, you're horribly self-centered, beyond the point of being able to reasonably function in society...

We want you to know that will not, and should not stand for your actions, and therefore withold our option of buying your product.

More errors, this time in the form of missing and misspelled words. I guess when you're contemplating suicide due to the ABSOLUTE DEMORALIZATION you're experiencing over the game, you can forget to proof read. If you care enough about a series to start/sign something like this, are you honestly going to refrain from buying it simply because someone else will also get to enjoy it?

Of course there are rare examples of petitions that do work, but the circumstances are much different in those cases. Some people have decided to start a petition to request a Collector's Edition version of BioShock. This is an entirely different case, because people are literally telling 2k games that they're willing to hand over more money than the regular retail price, of course they're going to pay attention.
